Job summary

BL Harbert International seeks an Electrical Project Engineer/Coordinator for Birmingham area. You will review electrical designs, coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors, and support commissioning and turnover. Strong communication, troubleshooting, and knowledge of NEC and federal standards are essential. PE preferred but not required.

Position based at BLHI Corporate in Birmingham or Huntsville with competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of electrical construction, MEP coordination, or electrical engineering.
• Strong understanding of power distribution systems, switchgear, generators, UPS, lighting, controls, and low-voltage systems.
• Experience reviewing electrical equipment submittals and construction documents.
• Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong troubleshooting in design and field construction environments.
• Familiarity with federal construction standards; design-build experience is a plus.
• PE license preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Review electrical designs, specifications, and construction documents for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, subcontractors, and client-side SMEs.
• Review and evaluate electrical equipment submittals for compliance and intent.
• Provide technical recommendations and approvals for equipment procurement and release.
• Lead coordination of long-lead mechanical equipment procurement to support schedule.
• Support commissioning, startup, testing, and system turnover activities.
• Identify and troubleshoot design conflicts and installation issues.
• Support RFI development and design clarifications with project stakeholders.
• Participate in project meetings with owners, consultants, contractors, and federal agencies.
• Assist with construction oversight, commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover.
• Monitor installation quality and adherence to NEC and codes.
• Support schedule coordination related to electrical installation and procurement.
