Job summary

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer for our Hartford (Wethersfield), CT office. You will lead electrical design for water and wastewater facilities, supervise junior staff, and interact with clients and multidisciplinary teams on regional projects.

The role requires a PE license, 5–10 years' experience, AutoCAD proficiency, and knowledge of NEC. We offer comprehensive benefits and a hybrid work schedule supporting professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of industrial power design, including medium/low voltage distribution and motor controls.
  • Good working knowledge of NEC and related codes.
  • Strong communication skills and client interaction.
  • AutoCAD experience is a must.
  • Professional Engineering License required.
  • 5–10 years in electrical engineering and design; BS in Electrical Engineering required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineer on water and wastewater facility projects.
  • Supervise less experienced staff and coordinate with clients and other disciplines.
  • Design power systems, lighting, equipment layout, and related activities.
  • Prepare project specifications and edit electrical master specs.
  • Manage multiple projects with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Conduct site visits from concept to construction.
  • Perform AutoCAD and/or Revit design as required.
  • Conduct power studies using SKM or ETAP as needed.
  • Assist in contract administration and review RFI responses and change orders.
  • Perform factory witness testing and field start-up support.
  • Represent electrical discipline in client meetings and business development.

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer for our Hartford (Wethersfield), CT office. Key Responsibilities
  • Candidate will serve as the lead electrical engineer on projects for water and wastewater facilities.
  • Responsibilities include supervision of less experienced staff working on projects, and interaction with clients and engineers from other disciplines.
  • Power systems design, including medium and low voltage electrical power distribution, generator design, motor controls, VFDs, lighting systems, equipment layout and related activities at water and wastewater facilities
  • Prepare project specifications and edit corporate electrical master specifications as needed to suit each project
  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer on multiple concurrent projects. Ensure the work is performed in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Perform site visits as needed from project conceptual design through construction
  • Perform electrical design work in AutoCAD and/or Revit as required by the project
  • Perform electrical power system studies in SKM and/or ETAP as required by the project
  • Complete construction administration tasks including review of shop drawings, replies to requests for information, change order requests and similar tasks
  • Perform factory witness testing of electrical equipment as required by the project
  • Monitor and participate in the field testing and start-up of electrical systems
  • Represent the electrical discipline in client project meetings
  • Interaction with clients, contractors, and engineers from other disciplines
  • Serve as a technical mentor for less experienced electrical staff
  • Assist in business development activities such as proposal preparation
  • Develop scope and fee documents for electrical portions of projects
  • Fill the role of Project Manager for selected electrical projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Qualified candidate should have knowledge in industrial power design, including medium and low voltage electrical power distribution, motor control, VFDs, lighting systems, equipment layout and related activities.
  • Candidate should have a good working knowledge of the NEC and related Codes.
  • Candidate must also have good communication skills, including interaction with clients and contractors.
  • AutoCAD experience is a must
  • Professional Engineering License is required.
  • 5-10 years in electrical engineering and design and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering are required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Revit BIM software and SKM power systems software is desirable.
  • Experience with instrumentation and control systems is a plus, including field and panel instruments, operator interfaces, and PLCs.
