Qualifications

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer (PE) to join a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering practice based in Downtown Phoenix, AZ. In this role, you will lead technical engineering calculations, power distribution design, and code compliance across commercial, retail, grocery, and multi‑unit building programs nationwide.

Working within an integrated, pod‑based studio structure, the Electrical Project Engineer serves as the technical authority for building electrical systems—collaborating closely with architectural production teams, mechanical/plumbing pods, structural engineers, and outside utility providers to deliver coordinated, fully constructible drawing sets.

Key Responsibilities

• Power Distribution & Systems Engineering: Design low‑and‑medium voltage power distribution systems, lighting layouts, automated lighting controls, emergency generation, UPS systems, fire alarm layouts, and branch circuitry for commercial building environments.
• Calculations & System Sizing: Perform detailed electrical load calculations, short‑circuit and fault current analysis, voltage drop studies, panel schedule sizing, and protective device coordination compliant with the National Electrical Code (NEC/NFPA 70) and energy standards (ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC).
• BIM & Drawing Production: Direct and participate in the preparation of complete electrical drawing packages (single‑line diagrams, electrical site plans, floor plans, panel schedules, and installation details) utilizing Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
• Interdisciplinary Pod Coordination: Coordinate directly with architectural designers, structural engineers, and MEP counterparts to resolve spatial clashes and ensure clean multidisciplinary integration.
• QA/QC & Permitting: Conduct rigorous quality control reviews on electrical drawing sets and technical specifications prior to agency submittals; ensure compliance with local municipal amendments and national codes.
• Construction Administration & Utility Interface: Review contractor submittals, answer Requests for Information (RFIs), evaluate change order requests, and coordinate directly with regional utility providers (such as APS, SRP) and municipal Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to secure plan approvals.
• Mentorship & Development: Provide technical mentorship, code interpretation guidance, and Revit modeling support to junior electrical designers and drafting technicians.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Architectural Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
• Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (State of Arizona preferred, or an active NCEES Record with eligibility for Arizona licensure by comity).
• Experience: 6+ years of progressive electrical engineering design experience within a multidisciplinary consulting engineering, A/E, or design‑build environment.
• Project Typology: Proven background designing power and lighting systems for commercial projects (e.g., retail chains, grocery outlets, commercial rollouts, mixed‑use, or corporate facilities).
• Software Proficiency: Advanced, hands‑on production experience in Autodesk Revit MEP and AutoCAD; working proficiency with electrical analysis software (such as SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, or visual photometric software like AGi32/DIALux).
• Codes & Standards: Strong working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), energy conservation codes, and applicable building standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active NCEES Model Law Engineer status to expedite multi‑state licensure across western and national jurisdictions.
• Background managing multi‑site commercial prototype programs with fast turnaround cycles.
• Working knowledge of BIM automation tools (Dynamo, Python scripts for automated circuit checks or schedule management).
