Job summary

BSEG, LLC is seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to join our building systems team in Allentown, PA. This role focuses on leading electrical design from initial concept through construction, coordinating with architects, owners, and contractors to deliver robust electrical systems.

The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years in building electrical design, along with strong Revit/AutoCAD proficiency and a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of electrical engineering for buildings, ideally in an MEP consulting firm.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Strong experience in building electrical system design.
• Ability to independently develop electrical designs and construction documents.
• Experience coordinating projects from design through construction.
• Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD; licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design through construction, including calculations, equipment selection, and construction documents.
• Design building electrical systems: power, lighting, emergency power, and communications.
• Develop and manage designs with QA/QC guidance from senior staff.
• Serve as project engineer and technical contact for assigned projects.
• Coordinate with architects, owners, developers, and contractors.
• Monitor schedules, budgets, scopes, and deliverables; flag issues early.
• Coordinate electrical with architectural, structural, mechanical, and fire protection.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
• Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and perform field observations.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
• Assist with proposals, project scopes, and fee estimates.
• Participate in client relationships and business development as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Take an active role in projects from initial design through construction, including system selection, calculations, equipment selection, preparation and coordination of construction documents, and construction administration.
• Design building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, emergency power, generators, UPS systems, fire alarm, and communications systems.
• Develop and manage assigned designs and projects with a high degree of independence, while utilizing senior staff for technical guidance and QA/QC review as appropriate.
• Serve as a project engineer and technical point of contact for assigned projects.
• Participate in project meetings and coordinate directly with architects, owners, developers, contractors, consultants, and BSEG's other engineering disciplines.
• Maintain awareness of project schedules, budgets, scopes, and deliverables and communicate potential issues to project leadership.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Prepare electrical calculations, equipment selections, specifications, and construction documents.
• Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, perform field observations, and assist with resolution of construction-related issues.
• Perform technical reviews of work prepared by less experienced electrical staff.
• Assist in mentoring and developing junior engineers and designers.
• Assist with preparation of proposals, project scopes, and engineering fee estimates.
• Participate in client relationship development and business development activities as experience and responsibilities increase.

Project work may include commercial, multifamily residential, senior living, educational, institutional, hospitality, healthcare, retail, mixed-use, industrial, and other building types.

The Person

• 5–10 years of experience in electrical engineering for buildings, preferably within an MEP consulting engineering firm.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Strong experience in the design of building electrical systems.
• Ability to independently develop electrical designs and construction documents.
• Experience managing or coordinating projects from design through construction.
• Ability to communicate and coordinate directly with architects, owners, contractors, and other consultants.
• Working knowledge of applicable electrical and building codes.
• Experience with electrical calculations, specifications, and equipment selection.
• Experience with construction administration, including submittal review, RFIs, and field observations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred for more experienced candidates or candidates approaching the upper end of the experience range.
