Job summary

Cooper Consolidated seeks an Industrial Electrician to lead electrical maintenance for cranes, barges, and shore-powered equipment across marine terminals along the Lower Mississippi River. You will supervise maintenance staff and coordinate capital projects to improve reliability and safety.

The role requires strong knowledge of power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, PLCs, and automation systems, plus adherence to OSHA and NFPA standards in a demanding marine setting.

Qualifications

  • 7 years in industrial electrical maintenance with 3 years in supervision.
  • Experience in waterfront or shipyard operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and safety standards.

Responsibilities

This job is primarily responsible for leading the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of electrical systems supporting electric floating cranes, barges, shore-powered equipment, and terminal operations. This job provides technical leadership for electrical infrastructure, automation systems, motor controls, power distribution, and crane control systems. Additionally, this job oversees electrical maintenance personnel and contractors, manages capital and maintenance projects, and ensures compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. The position partners closely with operations and maintenance teams to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, and operational performance and serves as the organization's primary electrical subject matter expert within a demanding marine and cargo-handling environment. In this job, you will:

  • Lead, develop, and manage electrical maintenance personnel through coaching, training, performance management, and workforce planning.
  • Establish and maintain electrical maintenance standards, procedures, best practices, and reliability programs to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities for electrical systems across cranes, barges, terminals, and related facilities.
  • Provide technical expertise for power distribution systems, motor controls, drives, PLCs, automation systems, crane controls, generators, and marine electrical infrastructure.
  • Direct troubleshooting efforts, root cause investigations, and corrective actions to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Ensure the safe operation and regulatory compliance of electrical systems in accordance with OSHA, NFPA, company safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable marine regulations.
  • Manage contractor relationships and oversee third-party electrical service providers to ensure quality, safety, and performance standards are met.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate electrical resources and maintenance activities to support uninterrupted cargo-handling and terminal operations.
  • Lead electrical capital projects, equipment upgrades, modernization initiatives, and commissioning activities from planning through implementation.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor maintenance expenditures, and support procurement of electrical equipment, services, and critical spare parts.
  • Evaluate and implement technologies, automation enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives that increase equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor performance metrics and drive improvements in electrical system availability, maintenance effectiveness, workforce capability, and overall operational performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Here’s what you’ll need to be considered:
Education

Required - Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Electrical Technology, ore related technical field; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience

Required - 7 years’ experience in industrial electrical maintenance, including 3 years supervisory/management experience. Preferred - Experience supporting various waterfront and/or shipyard operations, such as cranes, marine terminals, ports or other types of heavy industrial environment.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred - OSHA 30 Certification, NFPA 70E Training/Certification, Master Electrician Certification, Professional Engineer (OE) License.
