SMS group is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Tech to maintain and repair factory equipment, industrial machinery and electrical systems. This role emphasizes safety, preventative maintenance, and hands-on problem solving in a steel environment.

You will troubleshoot PLCs, control circuits, VFDs, and I/O devices, read schematics, and work with mechanics to keep production reliable. A minimum of 3 years in industrial settings, with steel mill experience preferred.

• Three-phase motors troubleshooting; network infrastructure.
• Willing to learn multiple roles including mechanical/production.

The right candidate will

• Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on complex electrical equipment, including PLCs, control circuits, communication systems, I/O field devices, and VFD drives/motors
• Install or modify electrical equipment following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, and other specifications with minimal instruction after general assignment
• Use Electrical Ingenuity and Work directly with all mechanics and operations personnel in a fast-paced environment to help develop a safety focused and productive atmosphere. Support maintenance teammates to help maintain a positive and efficient work environment focused on safety and reliability.

• 3 years minimum experience in industrial environment with emphasis going to steel mills. Experience will take account military experience, university time, apprenticeship or combination of all.
• Demonstrated proficiency using precision measuring instruments
• Efficient in the Metric Measuring System a plus
• Basic computer skills; MS Excel, Word, and Outlook is a plus
• Read Electrical drawings, blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
• Knowledgeable of programming and troubleshooting logic to include ladder logic, function block programming.
• Knowledgeable of VFDs, principle design, programming, and trouble shooting skills; I.O. systems (Beckhoff, Allen Bradley) and design layout; three-phase motors and ability to troubleshoot; network infrastructure; basic mechanical components in a mill; basic Hydraulic systems, how they operate and design layout
• Willing to learn and take on multiple roles, such as mechanical and production positions as well as continually improving on primary skill set
• HS diploma or equivalent is required; electrical degree or training is preferred
