Principal Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs expert-level break-fix & preventive maintenance, and/or design of mechanical and electrical equipment improvements as the employee’s job specialty requires. Provides troubleshooting support on equipment and technical support on production lines as appropriate. Maintains in-depth technical knowledge of numerous systems. Performs research and procedures as needed.
- Programs, troubleshoots, and analyzes complex control systems to resolve software/hardware and configuration issues.
- Utilizes predictive equipment diagnostics and interprets results for analysis, condition assessment, troubleshooting, and proactive maintenance, including infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, power quality analysis, laser interferometry, ball bar, and vibration analysis.
- Leads, drives, and participates in continuous improvement (CI) activities—focusing on processes, results, and cost savings using CI tools and methodology.
- Identifies and sources parts, supplies, and repair items. Suggests alternative items and engineered solutions to improve reliability.
- Performs maintenance independently following industry standards.
- Ensures compliance with 5S and housekeeping standards.
- May set up and operate multiple machining tools such as lathe, drill press, grinder, and perform welding tasks.
- Studies and investigates new systems, tools, and innovations to improve maintenance practices, updating documentation accordingly.
- Prepares input for cost analysis related to new equipment, repairs, rebuilds, and innovations.
- Updates records and reviews CMMS data for analysis.
- Provides technical input for sales quotations and performs T&M duties as required.
- Trains and coaches less experienced technicians and may assume project management responsibilities.
- Completes on-the-job training and self-study programs for career development.
- Follows all safety policies, rules, and regulations, and reports unsafe behaviors or conditions.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Requires standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and hearing. Occasionally sitting and lifting over 50 pounds. Requires good vision and color perception. Exposure to outside weather, electrical shock risks, hazardous materials, and loud factory environments is possible.
