Job description

AC corporation is seeking an experienced Electrical Journeyman Mechanic to join our team in the Raleigh, NC area. The Electrical Journeyman Mechanic is a nonsupervisory position responsible for installing, testing, locating, and repairing electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures.

Primary Purpose

The Electrical Mechanic is a nonsupervisory position responsible for installing, testing, locating, and repairing electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures.

Typical Duties
  1. Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
  2. Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  3. Install switches, relays, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
  4. Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads.
  5. Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
  6. Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  7. Repair faulty equipment or systems.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
General Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Successful documented completion of a formal apprenticeship.
Physical Demands

Must be able to:

  • See color to discern color-coded wiring and see naturally or with correction to perform tasks safely.
  • Use hands and arms to reach, handle, and manipulate objects.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and other climbing devices.
  • Carry tools and equipment.
  • Work in stooped, kneeling, crouching, and crawling positions.
Environmental and Weather Conditions

Working conditions include:

  • All types of environmental and weather conditions, including severe cold, extreme heat, wet or dry weather, and high winds.
  • Areas where toxic or caustic chemicals or fumes are in use or stored.
  • High noise levels.
  • Close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Working at high, exposed levels and in cramped quarters.
  • Operation of powder-actuated tools such as Ram-Set or Hilti guns may be required.

*Employees will not be subjected to hazardous conditions without proper training and safety equipment.
