Job summary

A leading inspection and certification company is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Inspector for a contract position in Mount Pleasant, PA. The role involves coordinating Factory Acceptance Tests, inspecting electrical equipment, and ensuring compliance with project specifications. Ideal candidates should have at least 5 years of electrical inspection experience and a strong understanding of NEC/IEC standards. The contract length is expected to be from 12 to 18 months, with a competitive hourly rate of $45-$49.

Qualifications

SGS is currently looking for an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Inspector / Expeditor (Contract) for a contract position in Mount Pleasant, PA. The length of the contract will be 12 to 18 months. The inspector will be required to sign an independent contractor agreement/sub-contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate all Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for project equipment, ensuring tests are executed according to project requirements and witnessed by relevant stakeholders. The role requires a background in Electrical Engineering and extensive experience in coordinating, witnessing, and assessing FATs, implementing mitigation or corrective actions, and delivering as per role expectations.
  • Schedule and coordinate FATs with suppliers, project team, and customer representatives.
  • Inspect MV/HV breakers, voltage transformers, surge arrestors, and related equipment.
  • Ensure all test procedures, documentation, and acceptance criteria are in place prior to FAT.
  • Facilitate communication between suppliers, engineering, quality, and customers during FAT activities.
  • Track and document FAT results, record punch-list items, and ensure they are closed.
  • Distribute certified FAT reports and test certificates to the project team for turnover documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to project specs, engineering drawings, and standards such as NEC and IEC.
  • Monitor and report testing progress, quality metrics, and potential risks to project timelines.
  • Witness and oversee the execution of tests to ensure comprehensive coverage of functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Document results and defects, raise NCRs, and facilitate resolution with the functional team.
  • Evaluate testing methodologies, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Verify final documentation has been completed and approved by the customer and responsible ENG/PM.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of electrical inspection experience.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of supplier expediting experience.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of shop/vendor surveillance experience.
  • Electrical Engineering background is advantageous.
  • FAT experience (Electrical, Type and other tests) required.
  • Project Planning, Quality Assurance and Quality Control experience mandatory.
  • Must have inspection experience of MV/HV breakers, voltage transformers, surge arrestors, etc.
  • Good understanding of E&I processes, codes and standards (NEC/IEC).
  • Industrial experience in oil & gas, power & utility, construction, or manufacturing.
Compensation & Logistics
  • Rate: $45-$49/hr plus mileage as per IRS guidelines.
  • Expenses: Hotel, flight, meals, etc. reimbursed at cost. Applicable only if the job location is outside the city of residence and with client prior approval.
  • Contract length: 12 to 18 months; start date as soon as possible.
  • Location: Mount Pleasant, PA.
