Job summary

Chaves County is seeking an Electrical Inspector to review applications, issue permits, inspect electrical construction, and enforce ordinances in the unincorporated areas of the county, including Dexter, Hagerman and Lake Arthur. This position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least three years of foreman experience, with substitutions allowed for technical training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years foreman experience within the last 10 years.
• Technical, university or college training may substitute up to two years of foreman experience.
• Applicant must demonstrate at least one year of related field experience in foreman level position.
• New Mexico General Electrical Inspector licensing and related exams required.
• Post offer Drug Analysis Test.
• Driver’s license, employment and criminal background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Review electrical construction plans for compliance with New Mexico electrical codes and County zoning regulations.
• Conduct electrical inspections at various stages of the construction process.
• Create a flexible weekly schedule for inspections.
• Request release for installation of meter from utility company.
• Maintain departmental filing system and keep financial, personnel and statistical records.
• Enforce County planning and zoning ordinances.
• Attend job related training and meetings as deemed appropriate by the Planning Director.
• Address and dispense with complaints concerning code violations.
