Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. seeks an Electrical Inspector/Construction Coordinator to support QA responsibilities on the Airside D Capital projects at Tampa International Airport.

The role requires coordinating electrical inspections, tracking daily activities, and ensuring code compliance for a $50M+ multi-story concourse project. The position starts immediately and runs for approximately three years, with a 5-day on-site work schedule at the airport, reporting to the PMCM Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years combined experience in construction inspection, project engineering, or design engineering.
  • Experience documenting electrical inspection on a multi-story commercial building with construction value of at least $50 million.
  • Knowledge of Florida electrical construction code regulations; certifications desirable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work in a team, and support mitigation of conflicts.
  • Must work on site at Tampa Airport 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily quality assurance inspection services for electrical systems (high/low voltage) on the new 600,000 sq ft concourse.
  • Oversees contractor’s quality control procedures and test procedures for electrical systems.
  • Coordinates installation of low voltage systems with Airport departments and Federal agencies.
  • Verifies workmanship and material conformance with contract requirements and submittals.
  • Documents nonconforming work and reinspects corrective actions until conformance.
  • Participates in punch list inspections and tracks resolutions.
  • Reviews proposed work plans for conflicts with other work or airport operations.
  • Assists in responses to RFIs and reviews change orders/claims.
  • Tracks daily progress and contractor invoices.

We are currently searching for an Electrical Inspector/Construction Coordinator to support our contract quality assurance responsibilities on the Airside D Capital projects at Tampa International Airport. Once completed, the Airside D Concourse will add 16 new gates increasing the annual Airport capacity by approximately eight million passengers.

The project assignment is scheduled to start immediately and continue for approximately three years.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provides daily quality assurance inspection services for the electrical systems (high voltage and low voltage) being installed for the new 600,000 square foot concourse. Includes rough-in inspections, above-ceiling inspections, and final inspections for code compliance.
  • Oversees the contractor’s quality control procedures, including test procedures, for project electrical systems. Includes checks of completed work and observations of work underway.
  • Coordinates installation of low voltage systems with various Airport department personnel and Federal government agencies.
  • Verifies workmanship and materials comply with the contract requirements and approved shop drawings and submittals. Checks material and equipment certifications before installation.
  • Prepares daily reports documenting the contractor’s daily work activities, decisions and coordination made, and problems encountered.
  • Documents any nonconforming work and reinspects corrective actions until conformance is confirmed.
  • Identifies any observed safety concerns and notifies the contractor and Jacobs’ safety manager.
  • Participates in punch list inspections and tracks resolution of items.
  • Reviews the contractor’s proposed work plans and identifies any conflicts with other ongoing work or Airport operations.
  • As needed, participates in responses to RFIs.
  • Supports the review of pending change orders and contractor claims.
  • Tracks daily progresses and reviews the contractor’s invoices.
  • Reviews contractor’s proposed installation plans for any major safety and airport operational concerns.
  • Participates in the contractor’s testing and commissioning activities.
  • As needed, may provide similar services for the new baggage handling system being installed. Reports directly to the assigned PMCM Project Manager.
Here’s what you’ll need
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience (combined) working as a construction inspector, project engineer, and/or design engineer. Five years of this experience will have been as a electrical inspector or project engineer on active construction projects.
  • Must be able to document electrical inspection experience on a multi-storied commercial building with a construction value of at least $50 million. Low voltage experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical construction code regulations in the State of Florida. Certifications are desirable.
  • Experience working as a team member on a construction management team or as an employee with a contractor
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, solve problems, react to changed conditions, communicate with contractor representatives, and support the mitigation of conflicts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Experience with using a project management information system (PMIS) is desirable.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and the ability to make well-thought-out recommendations to project representatives.
  • Demonstrated experience with construction safety requirements.
  • The position requires the selected individual to work at Tampa Airport 5 days a week .

The base salary range for this position is $115,000.00 to $135,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
