Job summary

Southern Company is seeking an Electrical Field Services Engineer based at Plant McIntosh in Rincon, GA, to support fossil, gas and renewable facilities with technical services, testing, and startup activities. The role includes after-hours callouts and occasional travel to nearby generation sites across coastal Georgia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Customer oriented work ethic.
• Broad general knowledge of power plant systems.
• Proficiency in excitation system calibration and problem resolution.
• Proficiency in low, medium, and high voltage switchgear concepts and designs.
• Proficiency in switchgear electrical control and applications.
• Working knowledge of protective relaying application and philosophy.
• Ability to communicate with plant employees at all working and management levels.
• Ability to manage time properly and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Maintain technical proficiency in electrical discipline areas.
• Cultivate and maintain contacts within the plant and with customers.
• Establish a precedent for solving technical problems in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
• Be a role model technically and in dealing with customers for other engineers.
• Maintain awareness of financial impact of Technical Services' support.
• Take an active role in the development of new employees.
