Job summary

Welty Energy, a leading professional services firm, seeks an Electrical Estimator to support its utility team. The ideal candidate will possess 3-5 years of relevant experience in high voltage estimations and the ability to create comprehensive project estimates. Emphasis will be placed on engineering design understanding and strong financial skills, with opportunities to work remotely across the U.S.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of electrical estimating experience within electric utility industry required.
• High school education or higher, preferably with a degree in engineering.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and various estimating tools.

Responsibilities

• Create and review thorough scope/design documentation for potential projects.
• Review substation and transmission line estimates at a project level.
• Coordinate with the estimating team and interpret actuals in comparison to estimates.

Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, Welty Energy currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.

Welty Energy is looking to add a Estimator, to our growing electric utility team! As an Estimator, you will create utility project estimates, act as an extension of our client’s team and provide best-in-class service. As an Estimator, you will be involved with consulting on select projects where your expertise and guidance is requested as well as providing assistance to the Welty Project Management Team as requested.

This position can be remote in the united states.

On a day to day basis you will:

• Create and review thorough scope/design documentation for potential projects including but not limited to a scope document, KMZ files (Google Earth), Transmission Asset Mapping Interface files and FileNet (engineering drawing database).
• Create and review substation and transmission line estimates at a project level.
• Review supplemental support estimates (Support estimates include Access Roads, Forestry, SCADA/IT Network, Testing and Commissioning, Real Estate, Project Management, Environmental and Revenue Metering.)
• Coordinate with other members of the scoping and estimating team, accounting, engineering, sponsors, regional contacts and personnel from the supplemental support estimate staff.
• Interpret and review actuals in comparison to estimates.
• Assist in the feedback loop from project execution to ensure accuracy is improving.
• Attend regional meetings with sponsors, protection, maintenance, and other stakeholders to review the status of all open estimates.
• Review/approve/reject estimate requests in OPPM.
• Build project schedule timelines for substation, transmission line and support estimates with correct logic.

Required skills, experience and background:

• Solid understanding of engineering design / drawing packages.
• Solid financial acumen.
• High school or GED required
• BS degree in engineering or similar technical BS degree is advantageous
• 3-5 years of electrical estimating experience within electric utility industry specific to high voltage is required
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings is highly preferred
• Microsoft Office with strong excel skills (required)

• Sage Estimating software (highly advantageous)
• Navigator
• OPPM
• Google Earth
• SAP
