Department Summary
The Electrical Engineering Department at San Jose State University offers high‑quality instruction to undergraduate and graduate students through classroom teaching, industry‑sponsored laboratories, and internship opportunities. The department serves more than 400 undergraduate and 300 graduate students.
Responsibilities
Lecturers are expected to:
- Teach courses effectively and coordinate class schedules (including asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid formats).
- Maintain appropriate office hours in accordance with University Policy.
- Participate in peer review, course assessment, and other departmental processes.
- Use the Canvas Learning Management System for all course delivery and to maintain student engagement.
- Develop inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement that address the diverse needs of students in terms of age, abilities, cultural background, language, and other characteristics.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience (required for undergraduate teaching). A Ph.D. or Sc.D. (or closely related discipline) is required for graduate teaching.
- Extensive knowledge of the assigned discipline.
- Satisfactory evidence of previous academic success.
- Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural student population.
Compensation
Salary ranges are based on qualifications and experience. Anticipated monthly salary for full‑time, annual‑yoked faculty (part‑time rates prorated) are:
- L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959
- L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481
- L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431
- L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347

Employment Conditions
- Faculty employees must complete required CSU training, including discrimination, harassment, Title IX, health and safety, and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
- Faculty may be designated as Campus Security Authority and must report Clery incidents and complete related training.
- Compliance with campus safety and COVID‑19 protocols is required.
- Appointment depends on budget, enrollment, and collective‑bargaining agreement provisions. Course assignment follows these rules.
