Job description

Brief Description of Duties

Teaching responsibilities for these positions include undergraduate courses in all areas of Asian American Studies, with current needs falling within Introduction to Asian American Studies and U.S. History and Politics.

The performance of instructional responsibilities extends beyond classroom duties and includes preparation for class, evaluation of student performance, syllabus preparation and revision, holding weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load, review of current literature and research in the subject area, and regular assessment of course and program learning outcomes with pedagogical improvements.

All faculty are expected to organize their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). All courses at the university, whether online or not, must be anchored in Canvas to ensure faculty–student connection in a common space. Faculty will receive access to Canvas prior to the semester start date.

Faculty may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term begins mid‑January and ends in mid‑May.

Required Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline to teach lower‑division courses.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of excellence in teaching.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, as might have been gained in cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline is required to teach upper‑division courses.
Compensation

Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. For more information, please see University Policy S21‑2.

Anticipated starting salary (monthly rates for full‑time faculty; part‑time rates are prorated):

  • L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959
  • L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481
  • L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431
  • L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347
Employment Conditions

Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role, including prevention of discrimination and harassment, gender equity and Title IX, health and safety, and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy. Faculty in this position will be subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and must complete the required Clery Act training. The President may recommend or require compliance with safety measures that decrease the likelihood of COVID‑19 transmission.
