Job summary

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Engineering Intern in Naperville, IL for a 10-12 week summer program. You will assist in the analysis, design, and oversight of electrical systems for the vertical building industry while collaborating with experienced engineers on real project work.

The internship offers hands-on experience, a structured mentor-led program, and exposure across education, government, and healthcare sectors, with opportunities to convert to full-time after the program.

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years towards a BS in Electrical Engineering
• None required
• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
• Clear communication in written and oral form

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems per code and IMEG standards
• Assist with researching commercially available equipment
• Support client relations, maintain project design notebook and documentation
• Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines (architecture, structural, electrical, mechanical, tech, clerical) and equipment suppliers
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring progress
• Review project documents for accuracy before final check
• Prepare and issue addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and support contract services

Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for the vertical building industry while working closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants on real project work.

This internship supports work within project budgets and cross-functional collaboration to help meet project goals and client expectations. You'll also contribute to documentation, coordination, final-check preparation, addenda, and periodic job site observations while supporting projects across education, government, and healthcare settings.

What You'll Do

• Assist with researching commercially available equipment
• Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files
• Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
• Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
• Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check
• Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and support other services required by the contract services agreement

What You'll Bring

Education

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required

Experience

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Salary

$22.00 - $24.00 per hour.
