Job summary

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Engineering Intern in Chicago, IL for a 10-12 week summer program. Over this period you will assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for the vertical building industry while working closely with a team of experienced engineers.

You’ll contribute to documentation, cross-functional coordination with architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines, site observations, and final check preparation on projects across education,

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years towards a BS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Strong interest in design consulting.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems per code and IMEG standards.
• Assist with researching commercially available equipment.
• Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent records.
• Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and suppliers).
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring progress.
• Review project documents for accuracy before final checks.
• Prepare and issue addendum information.
• Conduct periodic job site observations and support contract services.

IMEG is hiring a Electrical Engineering Intern in Chicago, IL. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for the vertical building industry while working closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants on real project work.

This internship supports work within project budgets and cross-functional collaboration to help meet project goals and client expectations. You'll also contribute to documentation, coordination, final-check preparation, addenda, and periodic job site observations while supporting projects across education, government, and healthcare settings.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
• Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
• Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check
• Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and support other services required by the contract services agreement

What You’ll Bring

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Salary

$22.00 - $24.00 per hour.
