Job summary

nVent’s Electrical Engineering Co-op Program in Solon, OH provides hands-on experience across Product Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Labs and Compliance. Co-ops are challenged to drive projects from concept through production while rotating through multiple departments.

You will work in a hands-on team, perform engineering calculations, create drawings and use 2D/3D modeling tools, ABAQUS, and MATLAB.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, with an electrical engineering focus preferred.
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without restrictions now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Performing and supporting engineering calculations and design review activities across rotations.
  • Assisting in creation of detailed drawings, 3D models, schematics, and installation instructions.
  • Participating in site visits and working with end-user customers during development and testing.
  • Gaining hands-on experience with prototyping equipment and test planning.

Electrical Engineering Co‑op Program

The Electrical Engineering Co‑op Program with nVent’s Electrical Connections (EC) Business is a structured experiential learning program that gives students the opportunity to couple their academic knowledge with practical situations in the work place, and simultaneously allows nVent to evaluate students as potential direct‑hire talent.

The program is rotational between various departments, including Product Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Labs and Compliance, and Digital Media Development. It is designed to engage students in the entire engineering process from development, through testing and applications, and to production.

Students are assigned rotations and projects based on their academic levels and engineering capabilities, and are given opportunities to champion these projects to completion and make significant contributions to existing processes.

Our candidates are hands‑on problem‑solvers who are analytical, creative, and highly professional. We seek confident leaders who take the initiative to drive results.

Applications Engineering:

Co‑ops work within a team of engineers who design and implement new products within existing product lines. Responsibilities may include:

  • Performing engineering calculations to analyze product designs for functionality and specification accuracy
  • Assisting with resolution of technical issues related to product design, system design, and compliance with industry standards
  • Participating in site visits and working with end‑user customers
  • Participating and presenting in design review meetings
  • Using 2D and 3D modeling software to create and maintain engineering documentation
New Product Development:

Co‑ops gain exposure to new product design by participating in the conceptualization and development of innovative new products or modifications to existing products. Co‑ops will learn the art of balancing engineering design, functional requirements, customer needs, and aesthetic appeal. Responsibilities may include:

  • Fabricating and evaluating product concepts
  • Assisting in creation of detailed drawings, 3D models, schematics, specifications, installation instructions, assembly prints, and test reports
  • Utilizing analytical tools including Finite Element Analysis (ABAQUS) and Matlab
  • Participating in site and supplier visits
  • Participating and presenting in design review meetings
Labs and Compliance:

Co‑ops build and support test programs for EFS products. Responsibilities may include:

  • Developing test plans to verify product design intent
  • Supporting efforts to ensure product compliance with codes and standards
  • Procuring and assembling materials, and conducting validation testing
  • Designing and improving test fixturing
  • Gaining hands‑on experience using various prototyping equipment (3D prints, CNC, Laser cutter, etc.)
