Job summary

Google is seeking a hardware engineer in Mountain View to contribute to custom silicon and prototype hardware for consumer devices. You will work within the Platforms and Devices teams on architecture, schematic design, and validation to deliver high-performance hardware solutions.

The role emphasizes lab work, collaboration across software, hardware, and manufacturing teams, and rigorous verification to enable product development and production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in EE/CE/Physics or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in electronics or embedded systems design, or 1 year with advanced degree.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 20%.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to platform architecture definition, electrical schematic design, and prototype validation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver prototype hardware for development activities.
  • Plan bring-up and validation of development hardware including functional verification and power validation.
  • Define factory test requirements and assist in manufacturing bring-up and on-site debugging.

Job description

  • 5 years of experience in consumer electronics design.
  • Experience designing high speed digital systems.
  • Experience with mobile SoC design.
  • Experience with: embedded systems, various communication protocols (especially USB, SPI, I2C, I3C, PCIE, UART, MIPI, DSI), analog design, low power design, Cadence/Allegro.
  • Enjoy being in the lab (soldering, oscilloscopes, data acquisition) and want to be in the details.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $132000 - $190000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Enable Google's future products by contributing to platform architecture definition, electrical schematic design, and prototype validation.
  • Work with all cross-functional teams (software, factory test, signal integrity, ECAD, product design, program management, etc.) to design, implement, and deliver prototype hardware to enable development activities.
  • Plan and execute bring-up and validation of development hardware designs including functional verification, signal characterization, and power validation activities.
  • Bring designs to production by defining factory test requirements, resolving build and test issues, assisting in software bring-up and debug, and working onsite with the manufacturer (if needed).
