Job summary

City Utilities in Springfield, Missouri, is seeking an engineering intern to support design and engineering tasks for electric distribution under the supervision of the Electric T&D Specialist. You will help create project designs for poles identified for replacement and support various engineering functions.

The internship runs 20-25 hours per week during the school terms and 40 hours per week in summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours per calendar year.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
• No prior engineering experience is required.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or GIS software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs general engineering functions in design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities.
• Designs line extensions to provide electric service to large-scale commercial/industrial customers.
• Redesigns existing facilities for loads, additions, or construction activities.
• Performs design of reinforcement, lighting, and preventive maintenance projects.
• Prepares drawings, cost estimates, and material lists for projects.
