Job summary

Dennis Group in Springfield, MA, is seeking a student pursuing a bachelor's in electrical engineering to join the Building Electrical Group. You will design electrical systems for food production facilities, perform load calculations, and prepare bid documents, with emphasis on coordination with trades and vendors.

Travel up to 25% is expected to sites and offices. Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and Revit, along with knowledge of NEC and lighting/fire alarm design, will help you contribute

Qualifications

• Sophomore, Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Access).
• Familiarity with three phase power, the NEC, wireless radio systems, fire and security systems, fiber or LAN cabling is a plus.
• Familiarity with designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations and fixture coordination.
• GPA: 3.0 or above
• Travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings, estimated 25%
• Familiarity AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for building power, including distribution for industrial facilities.
• Document calculations for design (short circuit, coordination, arc flash, sizing).
• Manage time and meet commitments
• Understand power system theory and components
• Design lighting for food processing spaces and coordinate with trades
• Design fire alarm systems per NFPA and local codes
• Design low voltage systems (LAN, phones, PA, Wi‑Fi, access control, cameras)
• Produce bid documents (layouts, single-line, risers, schedules, details)
• Procure long lead fixtures and equipment
• Assist in electrical bid processes and startup
