Job summary

Invenergy LLC in Chicago, IL seeks an Electrical Engineer2 to support protection & control for renewable generation, substations, and gen-tie facilities. You will focus on protective relays, event analysis, relay settings, and coordination across wind, solar, and battery storage assets.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering with 2–4 years of related experience, along with strong communication skills and travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or similar major.
• 2–4 years of experience in protection & control, power systems, substations, or renewable energy applications.
• Experience with SEL products and tools.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Some travel is required < 25%.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Support protection & control systems across high voltage substations, collection systems, and renewable plants, including outage investigations and reliability improvements.
• Maintain & support relay settings database; develop best practices for settings management.
• Assist in regulatory and compliance requirements for PRC-028, PRC-029, PRC-030; event reporting and coordination.
• Support NERC PRC compliance efforts including coordination, settings validation, and performance monitoring (PRC-005, PRC-019, PRC-025, PRC-027).
• Review maintenance and testing reports for alignment with standards and policies.
• Support cross-functional projects, fleet-wide procedures, and vendor/consultant onboarding.
• Develop, review, and maintain protection philosophies, relay settings, and coordination strategies.
