Job summary

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Engineer II to support power plant upgrades and new generation projects under senior engineers. You will perform analyses, calculations, and design development to improve safety, reliability, and performance.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET) with 2 years of experience; FE exam completed or in progress; nuclear project exposure and proficiency with ETAP or SKM is preferred; occasional field support and travel may be expected.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
  • At least 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Master's degree and nuclear experience preferred.
  • FE Exam completed or in progress.

Responsibilities

  • Support power plant upgrade and design activities.
  • Perform analyses: load flow, short-circuit, voltage drop.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and field staff.
  • Prepare documentation and participate in reviews.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the guidance of senior engineering staff, the Engineer II will support a variety of engineering and design activities for power plant upgrades, modifications, and new generation projects.

The successful candidate will assist with engineering analyses, calculations, design development, and system modifications while applying established engineering principles, standards, and procedures. Working within multidisciplinary teams, this individual will help evaluate existing plant conditions and contribute to solutions that improve plant safety, reliability, efficiency, and overall performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering & Design Support
  • Support engineering and design activities for power plant projects.
  • Assist with engineering studies, calculations, and technical evaluations.
  • Apply established engineering standards, methods, and procedures.
  • Support development of design modifications and technical solutions.
  • Prepare engineering documentation and project deliverables.
  • Participate in technical reviews and design discussions.
Electrical Power Systems
  • Support evaluation and design of electrical power distribution systems, including:
    • Switchgear
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Circuit breakers
    • Related electrical equipment
  • Assist with:
    • Load flow analysis
    • Voltage drop calculations
    • Short-circuit studies
  • Help identify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability.
Project & Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Participate in project meetings and technical discussions.
  • Assist with project planning and execution activities.
Field Support
  • Perform equipment walkdowns and field assessments.
  • Support installation, testing, troubleshooting, and startup activities.
  • Travel periodically to client sites and project locations.
  • Verify field conditions and support engineering evaluations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Experience
  • 2 years of engineering experience.

Knowledge may be gained through:

  • Academic coursework, Capstone projects, Internships or co-op programs
  • Professional work experience
Technical Knowledge

Basic knowledge of:

  • Electrical power distribution systems
  • Switchgear
  • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
  • Circuit breakers
  • Load flow calculations
  • Voltage drop calculations
  • Short-circuit analysis
Preferred Qualifications
Education
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Experience
  • Nuclear power industry experience.
  • Internship or field experience supporting power generation projects.
  • Experience with electrical system modeling and calculations using:
    • ETAP
    • SKM Power Tools
Certifications
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
