ENGIE North America Inc. in Iowa City, IA is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to join our utility operations team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The role supports campus and utility infrastructure, including power generation and distribution systems, chilled water, steam, and water production. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.
  • 0-2 years experience preferred; working knowledge of power generation, MV distribution, substations, protective relaying, and utility systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical design and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, SKM, or similar engineering software.

Responsibilities

  • Design, support, and troubleshoot electrical systems for power generation, MV distribution, substations, and related utility infrastructure.
  • Develop technical specifications and support procurement, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of protective relaying and control systems.
  • Coordinate with electric utilities on transmission interconnections, system operations, and incident investigations.
  • Perform and evaluate arc flash, short circuit, load flow, and protective relay studies using industry-standard engineering software.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues across utility assets and customer systems to support safe, reliable operations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project teams across multiple disciplines to support project development, design, construction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices; travel to ENGIE sites across North America as needed.
