Job summary

TRC Companies, Inc. is seeking a Substation Engineer to perform design engineering activities for relay protection and control in substation projects of varying size and voltage. The role supports engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications and may require travel to support work.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with EIT certification preferred, and demonstrates strong analytical and communication skills in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
• EIT certification strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt and modify standard approaches to solve difficult problems.

Responsibilities

• Perform design activities requiring understanding of drawings, calculations, specifications, and industry standards.
• Assist in preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, cost estimates, specifications, evaluations, and requisitions.
• Develop knowledge in Substation Design, Electrical Control Systems, and Protective Relaying.
• Maintain complete, accurate records and quality of all work performed.
• May travel to support work.
• Other duties as required.

Overview

The Substation Engineer performs design engineering activities requiring a basic understanding of drawings, calculations, specifications, and industry standards and practices covering the assigned work. This role supports relay protection and control engineering, including detailed design for substation projects of varying size, complexity, and voltage class.

Responsibilities

• Perform design activities requiring a basic understanding of drawings, calculations, specifications, and industry standards and practices covering the assigned work.
• Shall have a basic knowledge of the theory, practices, and procedures pertaining to engineering matters in one or more of the following areas:
• Electrical Engineering.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, cost estimates, specifications, evaluations, and requisitions.
• Develop professional work knowledge and abilities in one or more of the following areas:
• Substation Design.
• Electrical Control Systems.
• Protective Relaying.
• Develop knowledge of the Company-s design, construction, QA/QC, and safety standards and the Company document control system.
• Responsible for complete and accurate record keeping and quality of all work performed.
• May be required to travel to support work.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
• EIT certification strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standard.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Compensation

In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation

Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
