Job summary

TRC is seeking an electrical engineer to oversee substation engineering and consulting services across the US. You will lead physical substation design, yard layouts, grounding and protection systems, and coordinate with Civil/Structural and Networks teams to deliver reliable, compliant projects.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of related experience, and PE preferred. You will mentor junior engineers and support business development while delivering

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience (master's may substitute for one year).
  • PE registration strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with NESC and IEEE/ANSI standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; analytical problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Lead proposals, scope development, and cost estimates.
  • Create conceptual designs and execution plans.
  • Prepare engineering estimates and schedules.
  • Lead physical substation design (yard layouts, grounding, protection).
  • Perform studies and calculations (grounding, lightning, AC/DC loads).
  • Develop procurement specs and FAT testing.
  • Coordinate design with Civil/Structures, Networks, Transmission.
  • Improve processes and technology implementations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and team members.
  • Interface with clients; regular communications.
  • Quality reviews of designs.
  • Field support during construction.
  • Support business development initiatives.
  • Involvement in relay settings or 3D modeling as needed.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) preferred

Overview

Responsible for oversight of substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the US. Main responsibilities include creating physical substation layout design deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead in preparation of proposals and scope development, including:
  • Conceptual designs and execution plans.
  • Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Lead in the execution of engineering activities: Physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections, and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material.
  • Calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.)
  • Equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
  • Lead coordination of design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
  • Develop and improve processes, tools, and/or technology implementations.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members.
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
  • Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
  • Provide short-term field support during construction.
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives.
  • Other areas of involvement may include relay settings, 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience (completion of master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience).
  • Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with the National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standard.
  • Strong preference for those with:
    • Excellent written - verbal communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
