Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems seeks an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems in Rancho Bernardo. You will sustain and advance high‑power systems, including MW‑scale inverters, energy storage, power conditioning, and advanced control architectures for EMALS and AAG.

The role emphasizes innovative engineering solutions, detailed design work, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to meet demanding military and industrial requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in engineering or related field required or equivalent experience.
• Experience designing and testing advanced electric power inverters, power systems, analog/digital controls.
• Strong fundamentals in engineering concepts, codes, and theory with broad application across related specialties.
• Ability to rapidly learn new concepts and organize work to meet schedules.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, interpret, and resolve systems engineering problems to meet design requirements.
• Perform detailed design of energy storage, power conditioning, AC/DC distribution, and control systems for MW-scale machinery.
• Develop innovative but practical solutions to advance power systems engineering.
• Address complex manufacturing issues during EMALS and AAG build and testing.
• Create and update drawings using engineering change processes and tools.
• Participate in design reviews and prepare design inputs for electrical design and obsolescence planning.
• Troubleshoot conflicting requirements and coordinate across teams.
• Support project proposals with basis of estimates and risk assessments.
• Plan and execute system qualification and factory acceptance testing.
