Akkodis is seeking an Electrical Engineer - Hardware Engineer for a 2-year W2 contract on site in Greensboro, NC. The role focuses on cost-reduction of PCBs, redesigning PCAs, and maintaining performance and quality. Strong PCB design experience and BOM optimization are required.

Pay range is $50.00 to $60.00 per hour on W2, negotiable based on experience and location. On-site work with emphasis on DFM/DFA, testing, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or closely related discipline.
• 3+ years hardware development experience with cost-reduction projects or product redesigns.
• Proficient in PCB design tools, Cadence preferred.
• Strong understanding of PCB fabrication, SMT, and assembly costs.

Akkodis is seeking an Electrical Engineer - Hardware Engineer for a 2-year W2 contract position onsite in Greensboro, NC. We are seeking an Electronics/Electrical Engineer with strong PCB design experience to lead product cost-reduction and VAVE initiatives. This role focuses on redesigning and optimizing existing PCBAs to reduce BOM and manufacturing costs while maintaining product performance and quality.

Pay Range: $50.00 to $60.00 per hour on W2; The rate may be negotiable within this range based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Electrical Engineer - Hardware Engineer job responsibilities include:

• Hardware Architecture & Schematic Redesign: Analyze existing electrical schematics to consolidate multi-chip architectures, eliminate redundant components, and replace expensive ICs with cost-effective alternatives.
• PCB Layout Optimization: Redesign PCB layouts to optimize board area, reduce layer counts where feasible, simplify routing, and minimize trace lengths without compromising signal or power integrity (SI/PI).
• BOM & Component Engineering: Audit component selections to find pin-compatible swaps or alternative vendors. Drive the technical qualification of secondary sourcing options to mitigate supply chain risks and lower unit costs.
• Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA): Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to optimize panels, reduce component placement counts, minimize test points, and streamline the assembly process.
• Prototyping & Bench Testing: Bring up, debug, and characterize cost-reduced hardware prototypes using laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, and thermal cameras).
• Compliance & Regression Validation: Coordinate and execute regression testing, including Environmental, EMI/EMC, and safety testing, to guarantee that cost-reduced hardware maintains all necessary regulatory certifications (e.g., FCC, CE, UL).
• Technical Documentation: Own the Engineering Change Order (ECO) lifecycle, updating schematics, BOMs, Gerber files, and manufacturing documentation for a seamless transition to the production line.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a closely related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in hardware development, with a proven track record of successfully executing hardware cost-reduction projects or product redesigns.
• Deep proficiency in mainstream PCB design tools such as Cadence .
• Component Knowledge: Strong understanding of electronic components (passives, power management ICs, discrete semiconductors, MCUs, and connectors) and their cost drivers.
• Solid understanding of PCB fabrication processes, surface-mount technology (SMT), and how design choices impact assembly and test costs (ICT/FCT).
• Hands-on expertise in soldering, prototyping, and troubleshooting complex hardware down to the component level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience modeling thermal performance or simulating Signal Integrity / Power Integrity (SI/PI).
• Familiarity with "Should-Costing" modeling software or parametric cost-benchmarking techniques.
