Job description

MARA (NASDAQ: MARA) is a global leader in digital asset compute, developing and deploying innovative technologies to build a more sustainable and inclusive future. MARA secures the world’s preeminent blockchain ledger and supports the energy transformation by converting clean, stranded, or otherwise underutilized energy into economic value.

Role Overview

The Electrical Engineer - Data Centers will join a fast-paced, high-performing team responsible for designing, building, and optimizing MARA’s data center facilities and major infrastructure improvement projects.

This role will focus on optimizing the utilization of space, power, and cooling across operational data centers globally. The Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in supporting electrical engineering scopes from conception through completion and will work closely with the Electrical Engineering team to develop, execute, and standardize electrical designs across MARA’s data center portfolio.

The ideal candidate brings strong electrical engineering expertise, experience with mission-critical infrastructure or data centers, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, construction, procurement, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design
  • Develop and lead electrical design solutions using industry best practices and engineering expertise.
  • Provide technical electrical direction across multiple data center development projects throughout engineering, procurement, construction, and operations.
  • Design electrical systems, circuits, and components in accordance with applicable industry standards, regulations, and project specifications.
  • Lead the development and review of electrical drawings, dynamic models, coordination studies, arc-flash analyses, and related engineering deliverables from concept through as-built documentation.
  • Provide electrical design direction and technical support during the early phases of new data center development.
  • Review existing and vendor-provided designs and identify opportunities for efficiency, optimization, and value engineering.
  • Support procurement of long-lead electrical equipment and materials.
  • Develop technical specifications and bid packages for electrical equipment and systems.
  • Support technical evaluations, vendor selection, and procurement recommendations.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors to ensure electrical equipment and systems meet project requirements.
Construction, Commissioning & Operations
  • Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical and associated systems.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and help resolve electrical issues during construction, commissioning, and operations.
  • Work closely with construction managers and contractors to ensure electrical systems are properly integrated and executed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with contractors, architects, mechanical engineers, construction managers, and other multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs.
  • Communicate technical concepts and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support the development and standardization of electrical infrastructure across MARA's data center portfolio.
  • Stay current with emerging data center power, cooling, electrical infrastructure, and digital asset compute technologies.
Travel
  • Travel approximately 20-30%, primarily within the Americas.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably with AI/HPC data centers, mission-critical facilities, or comparable infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, codes, standards, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of IEC, IEEE, NFPA, and applicable life-safety codes.
  • Strong understanding of data center operations, power distribution, and cooling systems.
  • Experience with medium- and high-voltage electrical systems and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and other relevant engineering and electrical design tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% within the Americas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Direct experience with AI/HPC data center environments.
  • Experience with electrical system coordination studies, arc-flash analysis, and power system modeling.
  • Experience supporting electrical equipment procurement, commissioning, and startup.
