Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineering professional to support the Electric Power Division in designing, developing, and implementing generator control switchgear systems.

The role involves delivering automation solutions and overseeing retrofit and new system projects from concept through commissioning. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, convert legacy PLCs, develop PLC/HMI applications, and create wiring drawings while maintaining a strong focus on customer

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
• Experience with automation and controls, including PLC-based systems and HMIs.
• Knowledge of power systems, switchgear, ATS, and generator systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Willingness to travel 35-50% for field work.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope, and support proposal development with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessment and support field performance of assigned projects.
• Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses in a timely manner.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance, troubleshooting, and system operation as needed.
