Job summary

Widseth is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design electrical systems for diverse building projects across commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and municipal sectors. You'll translate concepts into constructed, code-compliant solutions, collaborating with architects, clients, and other engineers from concept through construction.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in electrical engineering, a Minnesota PE license (or eligibility to obtain in six months), and 7+ years

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
  • Minnesota PE license and ability to obtain North Dakota licensure within six months.
  • 7+ years of experience designing electrical building systems.
  • Experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, or municipal projects.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IBC, IEEE, and related codes.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and public-sector building projects.
  • Develop construction documents, including plans, specifications, calculations, and reports.
  • Perform power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage system design.
  • Coordinate designs with architects, contractors, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observations.
  • Collaborate with project managers to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Apply applicable codes and standards to ensure safe, compliant designs.
  • Assist with project proposals, client meetings, and technical presentations.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior engineering staff and EITs.

What You'll Do
  • Design electrical systems for commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and public-sector building projects

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license and ability to obtain licensure in North Dakota within six months
  • 7+ years of experience designing electrical building systems (adjust years as appropriate)
  • Experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, or municipal building projects
  • Proficiency with design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, or similar tools
  • Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, IBC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication and client service skills
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
