Job summary

Aquent Talent is seeking an Electrical Designer/Drafter in Houston, TX to deliver electrical drawings, 3D models, and BOMs for hyperscale data center modules. You will collaborate with Engineers and Management to ensure design deliverables meet customer specs and industry codes.

Responsibilities include creating and checking electrical deliverables, coordinating with vendors, and supporting QA/QC and installation documentation for modular infrastructure projects. Onsite position.

Qualifications

  • Education: Technical Certification or Associate Degree in Electrical Design or Drafting.
  • Experience: 5–15 years in modular EPC, hyperscale data centers, or similar.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Model coordination and clash detection with Navisworks Manager/Freedom.
  • Strong PDF editing, MS Office, and familiarity with NEC/IEC/IBC/OSHA.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and finalize detailed electrical drawing packages including schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Create bulk MTOs and BOMs independently without direct supervision.
  • Assist in troubleshooting by simulating layouts in design tools.
  • Prepare FAT sequences and installation procedures for customer submissions.
  • Review vendor data and supervise outsourced design work for compliance.
  • Ensure designs meet QA/QC and applicable codes (NEC, NFPA, IEC, IBC, OSHA).
  • Provide lessons learned to refine tools, workflows, and procedures.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Electrical Designer / Drafter to join our engineering team in Houston, TX. In this role, you will work closely with Engineers and Engineering Management to produce high-quality electrical drawings, 3D models, and comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) for Hyperscale Data Center Modules and modular infrastructure projects.


You will be responsible for independently creating, checking, and approving electrical deliverables, ensuring that all designs comply with customer specifications, internal QA/QC standards, and relevant industry codes.


Key Responsibilities


  • Engineering Deliverables: Prepare, review, and finalize detailed electrical drawing packages, including single-line electrical wiring schematics, panel layouts, panel drawings, cable routing, interconnect diagrams, loop diagrams, lighting layouts, instrument location plans, earthing details, and I/O schedules.

  • Material Management: Prepare bulk Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) independently without direct engineering supervision.

  • Problem Solving & Simulation: Assist service and project personnel in troubleshooting technical issues by simulating physical and electrical layouts within design tools.

  • Testing & Installation Documentation: Prepare sequence drawings and procedures for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), as well as compile complete installation procedures for customer submission.

  • Vendor & Subcontractor Oversight: Review vendor data, 3D models, and drawings for specification compliance; supervise design work outsourced to third-party engineering firms.

  • Quality & Standards: Ensure all designs align with engineering standards, QA/QC protocols, and applicable industry codes (IEC, IBC, NEC, NFPA, OSHA).

  • Continuous Improvement: Provide \"Lessons Learned\" feedback from project execution to refine internal tools, design workflows, and procedures.


Required Qualifications & Experience


  • Education: Technical Certification or Associate Degree in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Experience: 5 to 15 years of hands-on electrical design and drafting experience in modular EPC projects, high-density data centers, or hyperscale environments.

  • 3D CAD / Modeling: Proficiency and mastery in SolidWorks (Mandatory) and Autodesk AutoCAD.

  • Model Review: Mastery in Navisworks Manager / Freedom for model coordination and clash detection.

  • Software Tools: High proficiency with PDF editing software (Adobe Acrobat, Foxit, etc.) and Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).

  • Codes & Standards: General operational knowledge of industry standards including NEC, NFPA, IEC, IBC, and OSHA guidelines.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with Autodesk Revit and Autodesk BIM 360.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems, specifically SAP (Engineering modules and transactions).

  • Direct experience with hyperscale data center power distribution modules and packaged electrical buildings.
