Overview

Senior Electrical Engineer Data Centers – New York City or Remote This position is also available in: Dallas TX, Kansas City MO, Philadelphia PA, Los Angeles CA, Omaha NE, Atlanta GA, Ashburn VA, or White Plains NY, otherwise you are working remotely / based anywhere in US.

Our client is an Engineering Design and Commissioning Company that has a national footprint and specializes in MEP critical facilities design. They provide design, commissioning, consulting and management expertise in the Critical Facilities Space. They focus on reliability, energy efficiency, sustainable design and LEED expertise when providing these consulting services for Enterprise, Colocation and Hyperscale Companies. This role involves acting as a senior electrical engineer, designing critical power systems for new data centers and expansions to existing data centers. The ideal candidate will have experience designing electrical systems specifically for large data centers, with in-depth knowledge of Electrical Power Systems / Power Distribution System design and installation. Experience with electrical equipment design including Generators, UPS systems, PDUs and electrical switchgear is required. Proficiency with AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP to develop electrical construction models and documents is expected. You will help lead the design and collaborate with all trades and stakeholders involved in the project.

Responsibilities
  • Manage projects, create designs and plans, provide and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role for data center facility design projects (enterprise data centers, Colocation Providers and Hyperscale Companies).
  • Create Conceptual Designs gathered from meetings with the client for Field Engineer focus.
  • Work with Management to respond to RFPs; review shop drawings and submittals; review and respond to RFIs.
  • Establish project objectives, policies and performance standards within company policies; articulate these in clear work statements for the field.
  • Represent the company in project meetings as needed.
  • Collaborate with all design staff and oversee full-cycle electrical design activities.
  • Interact with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, develop and edit project specifications and lead the construction administration process.
  • Lead design teams and projects of complex scope.
  • Perform intermediate to advanced electrical design tasks including development of electrical distribution systems and topologies, infrastructure and equipment layouts and selection / sizing of equipment.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings.
  • Review and/or prepare book or sheet specifications for electrical systems.
  • Develop and/or review sequences of operations.
  • Assist in proposal development including project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Effectively manage the project design team including resource forecasting and coordination.
  • Identify potential project scope changes and aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Support contacts for design clients and build effective, long-term client relationships.
  • May direct / coordinate interns and other engineering staff.
  • Survey existing building conditions; conduct field observations and prepare technical reports of findings and commissioning support.
  • Collect data and other information for construction documents.
  • Prepare project design and construction documents.
  • Review and complete punch lists and project closeout documents.
  • Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Update and maintain shop drawing and RFI logs.
Qualifications
  • 8-15 years of experience.
  • Experience working for MEP firms, or an A/E firm.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering degree.
  • Licensed PE / EIT a Plus.
  • Experience with the design of building systems for data center and mission-critical projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems found in buildings including single/three-phase power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, grounding and life safety systems.
  • Knowledge of codes and specifications for electrical design including National Electric Code, Life Safety and Energy Conservation Codes.
  • Technical/design software including short circuit coordination and arc flash studies, equipment sizing, underground feeder calculations and lighting calculations.
  • Previous experience using Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP; BIM experience is a plus.
  • Experience working on data center / mission-critical projects.
  • Extensive experience with Electrical Power Systems and Equipment (UPS, Generators, Batteries, switchgear, Power Distribution Units, Backup Power, Power Systems, Medium/High Voltage).
  • Experience working on complex data center/mission-critical facilities design projects.
  • Proficiency in design and calculation software; MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Teams); SKM Powertools, EDSA or ETAP experience is desirable.
  • Exceptional organizational skills for file management.
  • Skilled with various electrical topologies and distribution systems; able to perform code analysis to meet requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated; strong prioritization.
  • Effective communicator via email, phone and in person; able to serve as primary client contact at times.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; ability to plan and delegate work.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience with Military veterans is a plus (e.g., Navy nukes, Seabees, Army power generation, etc.).
