Job Summary
Design electrical and control systems for automated polyurethane manufacturing systems. This role involves collaborating with project managers and sales teams to determine project specifications and requirements, ensuring designs conform to applicable electrical codes, and staying updated on the latest advances in PLCs and control panels.
Responsibilities
- Interface with project managers and sales teams to determine specifications and requirements for new projects.
- Analyze specifications and performance requirements to design control systems that meet machine needs.
- Produce design drawings, bills of materials, control cabinet layouts, and field interconnection wiring.
- Collaborate with control engineers to ensure electrical controls meet programming requirements, including integration of encoders, position switches, photo eyes, ID tagging, and communication networks.
- Ensure designs conform to applicable electrical codes, including UL, NFPA, NEC, and Canadian electrical codes.
- Stay informed on advances in PLCs and touch screen operator control panels, and design controls using customer-specified components when necessary.
- Modify controls on existing customer equipment without disrupting function while maintaining safety code requirements.
- Travel to customer sites to gather design information about facilities and existing equipment as needed.
- Design control systems for hazardous area classifications in installation locations.
- Understand OSHA, state, and local safety requirements to ensure electrical system safety for operators and machines.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of 2D CAD software, including AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Investigate electrical codes in various locations to meet national electrical code requirements, such as in Mexico and Canada.
Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree in an Engineering/CAD discipline or Bachelor's in E.E.T./BSEE, or three to five years of related engineering experience and/or education.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical current flows, electrical power, and automated control systems.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD software (preferred), AutoCAD 2D software, and Microsoft Office software.
- High level of electrical, analytical, and mathematical knowledge.

Additional Information
This position requires approximately 10% travel, including domestic and occasional international site visits for customer consultations, project troubleshooting, site commissions, and training.
