Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Sunnyvale, CA, seeks an Electrical Design Engineer Level2/3 to develop and support electrical designs for Navy launch control systems. You will research, design, test, and validate components across defense and industrial domains.

Responsibilities include analog/digital circuit design, data acquisition, and custom test setups; you will use test equipment and troubleshoot electromechanical systems, working in a team within the Launcher Electronics Group.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Level 2 requires 2 years, Level 3 requires 5 years.
  • Experience designing analog and digital circuits and data acquisition systems.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain Secret Clearance.

Job Description

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer Level2/3 to support the development and ongoing support of new and existing electrical designs used in surface ship and submarine launch control systems for the US Navy. The prospective candidate researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, and systems across a range of defense, commercial, industrial and domestic purposes.

The Launcher Electronics Group is part of the Hardware Engineering community on the Sunnyvale, CA campus and includes Electrical, Mechanical Design, Thermal and Structural Analysis, and Materials Analysis. Engineers in this group lead teams, perform cutting‑edge research, and drive the design process in partnership with program office business leadership.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design and test of analog and digital circuitry, cable design, data acquisition systems, and electronic control systems including motors, mechanical actuators, and sensors.
  • Use of electronic test equipment, test methods, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Design of custom test setups.
  • Work autonomously as a self‑starter.

Basic Qualifications – Level 2
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 2 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with no required experience.
  • Experience with design of analog and digital circuits.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems.
  • Experience in cable design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with standard electrical lab equipment (Oscilloscope, DMM, IR tester or similar).
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting experience with electromechanical control systems and circuits.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting custom test setups.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience with design of analog and digital circuits.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems.
  • Experience in cable design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with standard electrical lab equipment (Oscilloscope, DMM, IR tester or similar).
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting experience with electromechanical control systems and circuits.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting custom test setups.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of work experience with DOD related products, PCB/CCB design ability and experience.
  • Experience with Electromagnetic Interference testing and mitigation design.
  • MATLAB/Simulink proficiency.
  • LabVIEW and LabWindows experience.
  • C/C++/C# proficiency.
  • Understanding of FPGA concepts and programming.
  • Current DOD secret security clearance.
  • Knowledge of grounding and EMI design.
  • Familiarity with NFPA70E.
Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 – $137,600.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 – $171,000.00

Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses. Eligible employees may also receive Long Term Incentives. Benefits include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company paid holidays and paid time off.
