Job summary

Global Power Components in Milwaukee, WI seeks a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical design and analysis of electrical power distribution enclosures. You will own enclosure integrity, thermal management, and validation, coordinating with product development, certification, and manufacturing teams.

The role requires deep experience with sheet metal structures, FEA using ANSYS, and a track record of delivering production-ready designs that meet safety and performance standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 12+ years of direct design experience with enclosures for electrical power distribution equipment.
• Expertise using ANSYS or comparable simulation software for structural, dynamic, or short-circuit analysis.
• Experience modeling thermal performance, airflow, heat transfer, and temperature rise in enclosed electrical equipment.
• Experience owning the mechanical design of enclosures and structures through analysis, prototype, certification testing, and production release.
• Deep knowledge of fabricated sheet metal structures, welded assemblies, bolted joints, fasteners, materials, tolerances, and design for manufacturing.
• Ability to make technical decisions using calculations, simulations, test evidence, and sound engineering judgment.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical and structural design of electrical enclosures and mounting systems.
• Lead simulation and testing to meet short-circuit and thermal specs.
• Collaborate with product development, certification, and manufacturing teams.
• Develop design-for-manufacturing improvements with sheet metal fabrication and welding.
