Summary of Role
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design, execution, and oversight of complex electrical engineering projects. In this role, you will support Project Engineers and Electricians by developing machine control concepts, preparing estimates and proposals, and presenting innovative solutions to clients.
You’ll be responsible for designing electrical distribution systems, supporting automation integration, and collaborating with clients throughout the project lifecycle. This role also offers the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and specify medium-voltage (5kV–35kV) and low-voltage (120V–600V) electrical distribution systems, including substations, switchgear, MCCs, and panelboards.
- Develop power distribution systems for industrial plants and manufacturing environments.
- Create load flow models, single-line diagrams, and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical and SKM PowerTools.
- Perform short circuit, arc flash, and device coordination studies per IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E.
- Design grounding and bonding systems per IEEE 80 and NEC Article 250.
- Lead integration of industrial control systems (PLC panels, VFDs, automation networks, HMIs, SCADA).
- Ensure designs comply with NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and OSHA standards.
- Interface with utility companies for service entrance coordination and metering strategies.
- Support construction activities, commissioning, testing, and RFI responses.
- Collaborate with clients to align project goals and deliver updates throughout execution.
- Mentor junior engineers and enforce quality control processes.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and stay current on industry trends.
- Travel up to 25% as needed for site visits, commissioning, and client support.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design for industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Strong background in power distribution systems, control systems, and automation integration.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, SKM PowerTools, PLC/HMI programming.
