Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an Electrical Designer/Engineer (PE not required) in Durham, NC, to support multi-source Microgrid projects. You will develop construction drawings, one-line diagrams, grounding plans, and schedules while applying NEC, IBC, NFPA, and local AHJ requirements.

The role requires strong AutoCAD skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with diesel generators, BESS, PV systems, and power distribution

Qualifications

Job Description

Electrical Designer/Engineer (PE not required) with strong AutoCAD experience to support the development of electrical construction documents for multi-source Microgrid projects.

Primary responsibilities include researching and applying applicable code requirements (NEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA, local AHJ requirements, utility standards, etc.), performing electrical design calculations, sizing conductors and equipment, and developing construction drawing packages from established company templates.

Project types include medium-voltage electrical Microgrid systems (15kV class and above) which include diesel generators, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience preparing one-line diagrams, site layouts, grounding plans, conduit and cable schedules, and equipment layouts. Candidates should be detail-oriented, proficient in locating and interpreting code requirements, capable of working independently after onboarding, and able to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Skills and Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Proficiency with AutoCAD
• Knowledge of NEC and related electrical codes and standards
• Experience with power distribution systems
• Ability to perform electrical calculations including conductor sizing, conduit sizing, voltage drop, and equipment sizing
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Experience with diesel generators, BESS, and photovoltaic systems
• EPC, utility, industrial, renewable energy, or infrastructure project experience
• Familiarity with Bluebeam, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar electrical design software
• Field or construction support experience preferred
