Job summary

RigUp is seeking a Senior Electrical Wiring Designer to deliver high-level electrical design and drafting for complex power generation projects supporting critical infrastructure and industrial operations. The role requires independent execution and technical oversight.

You will generate diagrams and drawings, perform field verifications, review vendor submittals, and mentor junior staff while ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to QA processes.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience in electrical and instrumentation wiring design within the power generation sector.
• Experience in detailed design and drafting at EPC, engineering consulting, or utility contexts.
• Proficiency in SPEL, SPI, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
• Ability to generate wiring drawings for MV/LV, control/wiring schematics, and distribution panels.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Electrical Wiring Designer to join the Power Generation practice. In this role, the selected candidate will deliver high-level electrical design and drafting services for complex power generation projects supporting critical infrastructure and industrial operations. The Senior Electrical Wiring Designer will independently execute sophisticated design tasks, provide technical oversight to junior team members, and ensure all deliverables align with stringent regulatory, company, and client standards.

Core Responsibilities

• Execute complex electrical design assignments for power generation initiatives using advanced methodologies and tools across small to mid-sized scopes.
• Lead the development of design and detailed engineering drawings for medium- and low-voltage power system installations based on sketches, plans, and technical specifications.
• Generate single-line diagrams, Motor Control Center (MCC) and switchgear layouts, elementary and interconnection drawings, instrument loop diagrams, and DCS/PLC wiring termination drawings.
• Perform power and instrumentation cabling design for facilities and equipment while referencing vendor technical materials and design catalogs.
• Conduct precise electrical calculations and maintain comprehensive documentation for all wiring design deliverables, including cable sizing calculations and cable schedules.
• Perform field visits and on-site panel audits to verify design accuracy and operational requirements.
• Review vendor submittals to evaluate equipment compliance against project specifications and standards.
• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior designers and support office staff, maintaining high standards across power project deliverables.
• Participate in client design reviews, offering technical insight to resolve complex challenges and maintain regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate cross-disciplinary integration of wiring designs while adhering to established Quality Assurance systems, project schedules, and budgets.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related field with coursework focused on power systems.
• Extensive hands-on experience in electrical and instrumentation wiring design within the power generation sector.
• Proven track record in detailed design and drafting at an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), engineering consulting firm, or utility entity.
• Advanced proficiency in industry-standard tools including SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
• Specialized expertise in generating detailed wiring drawings for lighting, small power, ground/earthing systems, MV/LV single-line diagrams, control/wiring schematics, and AC/DC distribution panels.

Preferred Qualifications

• An equivalent combination of advanced technical education, specialized military or industry training, and deep subject matter expertise in power generation projects.
• Demonstrated experience leading design teams and managing multi-office technical support teams.
