Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Temporary Electrical and Control Technician I to support the Utilities and Energy Management department. This 40-hour week role focuses on installing, retrofitting, and maintaining electrical and control systems in a power and chill water environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years of apprentice-level experience, and a Texas apprentice electrician license or eligibility within 3 months.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • At least 2-years of related apprentice-level experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation and control systems for mechanical, electrical and industrial equipment.
  • Hold a current Texas apprentice electrician license or attain one within 3-months of hire on date.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in performing journey-level installation, retrofit, and modification of low and medium-voltage circuit breakers and switchgear, lighting, battery equipment, motors, motor starters, VFD's, soft-starters, PLCs, DCS, UPSs, and ATS systems.
  • And other electrical and controls-related items in a power and chill water production environment.
  • Maintains compliance with the National Electric Code.
