Job summary

University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Temporary - Electrical and Control Technician I to support Utilities and Energy Management (UTEMPS) on the UT Main Campus. The role is 40 hours/week, with a 9-80 schedule and an end date of August 31, 2027.

Candidates must have a Texas apprentice license or be eligible within 3 months. The position requires journey-level skills in electrical and control systems, with a high school diploma or GED and relevant apprenticeship experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least 2 years of apprentice-level experience in electrical, instrumentation and control systems for mechanical, electrical and industrial equipment.
• Hold a current Texas apprentice electrician license or obtain one within 3 months of hire.
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assists in journey-level installation, retrofit, and modification of low and medium-voltage electrical equipment and controls (breakers, switchgear, lighting, motors, VFDs, PLCs, DCS, UPS, ATS).
• Maintains compliance with the National Electric Code and supports power and chill water production operations.
