Job summary

Kent is seeking experienced Electrical Commissioning Technicians for a project in Ingleside, Texas. You will support safe testing, energization, start-up, and turnover of electrical systems, working with construction, engineering, operations, and vendors.

The role requires 5+ years in industrial electrical environments, familiarity with LV/MV distribution, and the ability to read diagrams. On-site work may involve shifts; site safety and compliance are critical.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; electrical trade training preferred.
• Journeyman Electrician license preferred; required where dictated by scope/regulation.
• Typically 5+ years industrial electrical experience including commissioning/start-up/testing.
• Knowledge of low- and medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, motors, UPS/battery systems, grounding, and protection.
• Ability to read single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and vendor manuals.
• Familiarity with electrical test instruments and power-quality equipment; OSHA/NFPA knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Execute pre-commissioning and commissioning activities per approved procedures and priorities.
• Verify installation complete for switchgear, MCCs, transformers, motors, UPS, batteries, grounding, lighting, and cabling.
• Prepare inspection records, punch lists, and turnover packages accurately and on time.
• Support insulation-resistance, continuity, phase rotation, winding resistance, grounding, and functional testing.
• Assist with protective relay, breaker, interlock, and emergency-power testing under supervision.
• Prepare equipment and systems for energization; verify permits, isolations, and LOTO readiness.

Kent is looking for experienced Electrical Commissioning Technicians for a project in Ingleside, Texas to support the safe testing, energization, start-up, and turnover of electrical systems for an energy project in Ingleside, Texas. The role performs field inspections and commissioning activities on low- and medium-voltage equipment, working closely with Construction, Engineering, Operations, vendors, and other commissioning disciplines.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

• Execute electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in accordance with approved procedures, drawings, specifications, permits, and system priorities.
• Perform walkdowns and verify installation completeness for switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, motors, generators, UPS systems, batteries, grounding systems, lighting, heat tracing, and associated cabling.
• Complete inspection and test records, check sheets, redlines, punch lists, and turnover packages accurately and on time.
• Support insulation-resistance, continuity, phase-rotation, winding-resistance, grounding, battery, cable, and functional testing using properly calibrated equipment.
• Assist with protective relay, breaker, interlock, control-circuit, and emergency-power testing under the direction of authorized personnel.
• Prepare equipment and systems for energization; verify boundaries, permits, isolations, LOTO, clearances, and readiness before work begins.
• Participate in energization, motor solo runs, equipment start-up, load testing, and integrated system testing as assigned.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults, control-power issues, wiring discrepancies, and equipment defects; document findings and support corrective action.
• Coordinate with mechanical and instrumentation teams during loop checks, package testing, and start-up of motors and electrically driven equipment.
• Verify vendor requirements and support vendor representatives during testing and commissioning of packaged equipment.
• Identify, classify, and clear punch items while maintaining system configuration and turnover status.
• Maintain test equipment, tools, temporary power arrangements, and commissioning work areas in safe, serviceable condition.
• Support shift handovers, daily planning, progress reporting, and system handover to Operations.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

• High school diploma or GED required; electrical trade school, apprenticeship, associate degree, or equivalent technical training preferred.
• Journeyman Electrician license or recognized electrical trade qualification preferred; required where dictated by the work scope or applicable regulation.
• Typically 5 or more years of industrial electrical experience, including commissioning, start-up, testing, or maintenance in LNG, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, power, or similar facilities.
• Working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, motors, UPS/battery systems, grounding, and electrical protection.
• Ability to read single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment data sheets, and vendor manuals.
• Practical experience with electrical test instruments; familiarity with relay-test sets and power-quality equipment is an advantage.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, LOTO, energized work controls, and electrical safe-work practices.
• Current OSHA 10/30, NCCER, TWIC, first aid/CPR, or other site credentials preferred or must be obtained as required by the project.
• Must be able to satisfy site access, background screening, drug and alcohol testing, and fit-for-duty requirements.
• Able to work outdoors, climb stairs and ladders, enter controlled areas, lift and carry tools, and work days, nights, weekends, or rotating shifts as the project requires.

Communication:

• Communicate clearly and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Prepare accurate shift reports, test records, punch-list updates, and turnover documentation.
• Coordinate effectively with Construction, Operations, Engineering, vendors, and other commissioning disciplines.
