Job summary

Kent is seeking a Telecommunications Commissioning Technician for a Commissioning & Startup project in Port Arthur, TX. You will read telecom drawings, perform equipment inspections, and oversee testing of fibre, IP networks and wireless systems.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years' commissioning experience, NFPA70E certification, and familiarity with completions databases and pre-commissioning procedures. Travel is required with project-based work.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years Telecommunications commissioning experience.
  • Familiar with System Completions database and check sheets.
  • Knowledge of best practices for large industrial projects.
  • Fully trained in safety subjects (Environment, Safe Operations, Emergency Response, PTW, MOC).
  • NFPA 70E trained and certified.
  • Experience completing pre/commissioning activities per project procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate HSSE leadership and comply with policies and risk assessments.
  • Read and interpret area layouts, block diagrams and telecom drawings.
  • Review equipment lists, cable schedules and termination drawings.
  • Inspect telecommunication equipment and perform installation checks.
  • Test field devices back to host systems (CCTV, PA, access control).
  • Configure structured cabling, fibre networks, switches and IP-based networks.
  • Install and test telephone systems and Wi‑Fi access points.
  • Maintain and use a Completions Management System and punch lists.

About the job:

Kent is looking for a Telecommunications Commissioning Technician for a Commissioning & Startup project in Port Arthur, TX.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and behavior. Engage with HSSE policies and programs including field level risk assessments, stop work programs and communicating with other workers in the work party or area.
  • Able to read and understand Area layouts, block diagrams and telecommunications system architecture drawings.
  • Able to read and understand Equipment lists, cable schedules and termination drawings.
  • Able to read and understand system descriptions, data sheets and typical installation details.
  • Experienced in function checking field devices back to a host system. Such as CCTV, Public Address and alarm speakers, Access Control card readers.
  • Carry out telecommunication equipment inspections, including cabinet, panel and end device installation checks as per project requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of function testing and configuration of structured cabling, fibre-based networks, switches and routers and IP based network configuration.
  • Experienced in the installation & testing of telephone systems and Wi Fi access points.
  • Experience and knowledge of a Completions Management System or Database. Familiar with the commissioning process from mechanical completions to commissioning and start-up. Ability to complete function test check sheets or inspection test records, punch lists and make redlines and report any deficiencies.
  • Knowledge of Microwave communication equipment, Antennas and radio frequency equipment including alignment.
  • Ability to use test equipment, including OTDR's, multi-meters and ethernet testers.
  • Understanding of electrical supplies for Telecommunications equipment
  • Attend all mandatory training as specified in HSE and Permit to Work training schedule.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

  • Minimum 5 years of Telecommunications commissioning experience.
  • Trained and familiar with System Completions database including B and C check sheets.
  • Knowledge of best practice and procedures in line with large-scale industrial projects.
  • Fully trained in all Safety related subjects outlined by Company such as Environment Concerns, Safe Operations, Emergency Response, JHA, PTW, MOC.
  • NFPA 70E trained and certified.
  • Prior experience completing Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning activities as per project procedures.
Communication:
  • Ability to communicate effectively to accomplish assigned tasks.
Behavior/ Core Competencies:
  • Possess basic computer training such as Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Fully trained in the use of hand tools, operation of test equipment.
HSSEQ:
