Job summary

Kent seeks an Instrumentation & Controls Commissioning Technician based in Port Arthur, TX to support regional project sites. You will work under the Commissioning Lead Technician, performing field tasks and ensuring safe, efficient commissioning activities.

You will conduct loop checks, tests, and documentation, coordinating with instrument leads and vendors to meet project timelines and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Technician certification and 5+ years in commissioning projects.
  • Experience with front-line commissioning, start-up, and operations.
  • Hands-on knowledge of instrument test equipment and process plants.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute instrumentation commissioning tasks under lead technician.
  • Perform loop checks, leak tests, and interlock testing.
  • Create and sign permits, JSA, FLRA, toolbox talks.
  • Support field vendors and document punch list completion.

About the job

Kent is looking for an Instrument & Controls Commissioning Technician to be based in Port Arthur, TX and support regional project site(s).

Responsibilities
  • Reports to the Instrumentation & Controls Commissioning Lead Technician for planning and execution support.
  • Performs instrumentation commissioning execution work as directed.
  • Communicates with the Commissioning Instrument leads for technical support.
  • Conducts instrument field tasks within project permitting, isolation, zero‑energy states and fully complies with CSU and Area Prime Safe Working practices, including JSA’s, FLRA’s, toolbox talks, etc.
  • Creates RFI content and signs permits, JSA, FLRA and toolbox talks as front‑line user.
  • Verifies punch list completion and signs off in the system completion database.
  • Completes commissioning B check sheets accurately.
  • Executes daily instrument commissioning work: loop checking, instrument repair, leak testing, interlock testing, logic testing, C&E testing, dynamic equipment runs.
  • Completes field instrument red lines on documentation such as loop diagrams, data sheets, wiring diagrams.
  • Escorts and provides field support for commissioning vendors.

Ad hoc tasks may be assigned as needed by the supervisor or management within the scope of the employee's skills.

Knowledge / Qualification / Training / Certification
  • Technician certified, preferably with a colleague technical certificate and 5+ years’ experience in transferable project/engineering/commissioning. Project/engineering/commissioning experience preferred.
  • Proven track record in front‑line technician commissioning, start‑up, and initial platform operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of test equipment and process plant instrumentation at a hands‑on level.
  • Knowledge of fire & gas devices.
  • Experience with E‑house commissioning, including transformers, MCC, switchgear and UPS commissioning.
  • Hands‑on DCS knowledge at loop‑check level and PLC knowledge at loop‑check level.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of all instrument test equipment such as HART communicator, FLuke multimeter, Wobulator, pressure simulator such as Druck.
Communication
  • Excellent command of English in both oral and written communication.

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Proven strong technical skills in discipline subject matter.
