Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Execute pre-commissioning and commissioning activities per approved procedures, drawings, and system priorities.
• Perform walkdowns and verify installation for transmitters, switches, analyzers, valves, and other devices.
• Calibrate pressure, temperature, flow, and other field instruments using appropriate test equipment.
• Conduct point-to-point, loop, and functional testing from field devices to control systems.
• Coordinate with construction, operations, vendors during testing and handover to Operations.

Instrumentation Commissioning Technician to support the safe testing, calibration, start-up, and turnover of instrumentation and control systems for an energy project in Ingleside, Texas. The role performs field verification, calibration, loop checking, functional testing, and troubleshooting while coordinating closely with Construction, Engineering, Operations, vendors, and other commissioning disciplines.

Skills and responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Execute instrumentation and controls pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in accordance with approved procedures, drawings, specifications, permits, and system priorities.
• Perform walkdowns and verify installation completeness for transmitters, switches, analyzers, control valves, solenoids, fire and gas devices, junction boxes, marshalling cabinets, and packaged control systems.
• Calibrate pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical, and other field instruments using properly selected and calibrated test equipment.
• Perform point-to-point checks, continuity checks, loop checks, cause-and-effect testing, alarm and trip verification, and functional testing from the field device to the control system.
• Verify instrument ranges, units, set points, fail positions, impulse lines, tubing, manifolds, tagging, cable terminations, shielding, grounding, and installation orientation.
• Support testing of DCS, SIS/ESD, PLC, fire and gas, machinery protection, metering, and package control interfaces under approved work processes.
• Stroke and function-test control valves, shutdown valves, actuators, positioners, limit switches, and associated accessories.
• Troubleshoot signal, communication, configuration, wiring, tubing, calibration, and device-performance issues; document findings and support corrective action.
• Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams during motor, equipment, package, permissive, interlock, and integrated system testing.
• Verify vendor requirements and support vendor representatives during testing and commissioning of packaged equipment and analyzers.
• Complete calibration sheets, loop folders, check sheets, redlines, punch lists, test records, and turnover packages accurately and on time.
• Identify, classifiy, and clear punch items while maintaining system configuration and turnover status.
• Support shift handovers, daily planning, progress reporting, start-up activities, and system handover to Operations.

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification

• High school diploma or GED required; instrumentation, electronics, process controls, or related technical training preferred.
• Recognized instrumentation technician qualification, apprenticeship, NCCER credential, associate degree, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Typically 5 or more years of industrial instrumentation experience, including commissioning, start-up, calibration, or maintenance in LNG, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, power, or similar facilities.
• Working knowledge of analog and digital signals, HART, instrument air systems, control valves, DCS, PLC, SIS/ESD, fire and gas, and packaged control systems.
• Ability to read P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-ups, wiring diagrams, cause-and-effect charts, logic narratives, instrument indexes, data sheets, and vendor manuals.
• Hands‑on experience with process calibrators, pressure sources, digital multimeters, HART communicators, and other instrumentation test equipment.
• Knowledge of hazardous‑area practices, intrinsic safety, LOTO, permit‑to‑work requirements, and OSHA safe‑work expectations.
• Current OSHA 10/30, NCCER, TWIC, first aid/CPR, or other site credentials preferred or must be obtained as required by the project.
• Must be able to satisfy site access, background screening, drug and alcohol testing, and fit‑for‑duty requirements.
• Able to work outdoors, climb stairs and ladders, enter controlled areas, lift and carry tools, and work days, nights, weekends, or rotating shifts as the project requires.

Communication

• Communicate clearly and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Prepare accurate shift reports, test records, punch‑list updates, and turnover documentation.
• Coordinate effectively with Construction, Operations, Engineering, vendors, and other commissioning disciplines.
