Job summary

Ardmore Roderick seeks a Civil Design Engineer to join our team in Chicago or Downers Grove, IL. You will design infrastructure projects across utilities, transportation, and related sectors, working with Project Managers from bidding through construction.

The role requires a BS in Electrical or Civil Engineering, 0–3 years of electrical design experience, EIT, and proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office. Hybrid work may be available depending on client and project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
• Zero to three years of experience with electrical design projects.
• EIT certification.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Team player with good communication.
• Good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with Project Manager to break down project into tasks to be completed.
• Use client objectives and engineering standards to design and implement projects.
• Work on multiple projects and communicate with different practices throughout the project cycle (from bidding to construction).
• Learn new systems and programs requested by the client, AutoCAD specifically and other client-specific programs.
• Constant communication with project managers to ensure timely execution and early detection of potential engineering difficulties.
• Develop overhead/underground/URD design packages for electric utility projects in Greater Chicago area.
• Produce design plans for overhead (OH), underground (UG), or URD designs.
• Develop work packages using GIS, CAD programs and work management systems.
• Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, transformer sizing, voltage drop and coordination of protective devices.
• Prepare tree trimming requests, facilitate permits, develop BOM and estimate costs.
