Job summary

Ardmore Roderick in Chicago, IL seeks a Civil Design Engineer to join our team on infrastructure projects across utilities, transportation, and energy sectors. The role supports design from bidding through construction with potential hybrid work.

You will collaborate with project managers, learn client systems (AutoCAD) and deliver OH/UG/URD designs while upholding safety and quality standards in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in electrical or civil engineering.
• 0-3 years of experience with electrical design projects.
• EIT certification.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Team player mindset and strong written/verbal communication.
• Good to great organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with Project Manager to break down project into tasks to be completed.
• Design and implement projects using client objectives and engineering standards.
• Manage multiple projects and coordinate with practices through the project cycle (from bidding to construction).
• Learn new systems and programs requested by the client, especially AutoCAD.
• Maintain timely communication with project managers for on-time execution and early detection of issues.
• Develop overhead and underground design packages for electric utility projects in the Greater Chicago area.
• Produce design plans for OH, UG, or URD designs.
• Develop work packages using GIS, CAD, and work management systems.
• Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis, voltage drop, and coordination of protective devices.
• Prepare tree trimming requests, permits, BOMs and cost estimates.
