Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent plus completion of an approved apprenticeship program for the specific building system to be inspected.
• Seven to ten years of experience in building construction related to electrical systems and installation.

Responsibilities

• Inspects new and existing buildings for compliance with electrical codes and explains applicable laws to architects, engineers, contractors, property owners and the public.
• Reviews plans submitted by builders to ensure compliance with construction codes.
• Maintains documentation of review, permit approval and inspection process.
• Investigates complaints of unsafe building conditions and processes cases per city policies.
• Recommends changes to inspection methods and safety standards to improve efficiency.
• Assists facility maintenance staff with minor electrical troubleshooting and maintenance when schedules permit.
