Job summary

City of Great Falls is seeking a qualified Electrical Inspector within the Building Safety Division. The role involves performing inspections to ensure compliance with adopted electrical codes and explaining applicable laws to architects, engineers, contractors, property owners and the public.

You will review submitted plans, maintain thorough documentation, and participate in code updates and safety improvements while adhering to city policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with an approved electrical apprenticeship.
• Seven to ten years in building construction related to electrical systems.
• Master’s or journeyman license in the inspected systems.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a Montana driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Inspects new and existing buildings for compliance with electrical codes; explains laws to architects, engineers, contractors, owners and the public.
• Reviews plans submitted by contractors and property owners to ensure compliance with related construction codes.
• Maintains accurate documentation of the review, permit approval and inspection process.
• Investigates complaints of unsafe building conditions and processes cases per city policies.
• Recommends changes to inspection methods and codes to improve efficiency and update requirements.
• Assists city facility maintenance staff with minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs when schedule permits.
