Job summary

Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is seeking a Training Specialist to design and manage electric production training programs and safety initiatives. The role involves developing curricula, coordinating safety practices, and collaborating with internal teams and regulators to ensure compliance.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Education or related field with several years of training experience in utility settings, plus MS Office proficiency and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Training or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• 3–5 years water and electric production experience.
• 2–4 years training/presentation experience.
• Knowledge of MIOSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
• Proficient with MS Office products.
• Adapts procedures to meet special needs.
• Broad knowledge of training and utility facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, and maintains training programs for electric production employees.
• Develops training budget.
• Supervises Training committees.
• Monitors trainee advancement and suggests remedial actions.
• Develops and coordinates safe work practices per standards.
• Coordinates and tracks incident/hazard/near-miss investigations.
• Recommends corrective actions and tracks implementation.
• Coordinates and facilitates safety awareness programs.
• Conducts accident investigations.
• Ensures adherence to safety procedures with safety and training committees.
• Interacts with federal/state/local agencies, other utilities, and community organizations on training and safety.
• Participates in ongoing Asset Management and Work Management process improvements.
• Maintains predictable, reliable attendance.
• Performs other duties as required by supervisor.
